Ever wanted to be able to pick and choose what dashboard features you use? Yes, you have (I've heard from enough of you), and here is your chance.

I'm working on the next version of OM which among other things will include a plugin API for writing extensions and modifying the behavior of the dashboard. It will be quite similar to Wordpress, actually. You can see the most recent code for this in the OM SVN, though I haven't published the DB schema yet because it's in such a state of flux right now. However, my time has been occupied by writing the core of the software, which is mostly behind the scenes stuff, rather than the cool UI and features that you all will interact with more frequently.

I could really use some help there. If any of you want to become plugin writers, please contact me! It would be great to release this software with a selection of plugins already available, and it would be fantastic to have some "beta testers" of the plugin API and documentation while it's still easy to change both.

Thanks! You all are awesome.

ispyisail, thanks for helping out. We're definitely working together but the "map free" code is not based on the new framework. Sean is helping us out by extending the v0.3 code.

Again, if you are interested in actually writing plugins for the new dashboard please email me at

Yes, the students in MeshConnect team are fully supporting the OrangeMesh efforts. The current development on a map-free dashboard is a based on the current OrangeMesh release v0.3. It serves as a quick fix to the failure of Google Map at our trial sites. Hope it can be useful for those who also have the trouble using Google Map. We look forward to the further collaboration on the dashboard project.

By the way, to the topic of Shaddi's call, I have a comment. Due to the nature of "part-time and self-taught expert", particularly those students, many may hesitate to initiate a commitment until the responsibilities are well understood. I'd suggest to display a partitioning of implemetation for the next version of OM and let participants to see all the options. Participants may come and commit a task within a time frame plus a few check points. When a participant failed to deliver at certain check point for whatever reason, the task may be reassigned (sometimes to the same party) with a new time frame.

Just a thought.

Excellent idea Sean. I'll get on that.

I only have 4 nodes, but I recently came into an IP address of my own, so I can play around with it all I want. Hopefully my old server can handle the stuff you guys are putting together.

Let me know via email, or on the boards if you want me to set some cycles aside for a test network.

I don't think you need to get that fancy.

From my understanding well i'm hoping anyway that an IP address from a DHCP server will be enough.

I'm using an old AMD 1000 with Ubuntu 8.10 with LAMP and that's probably to fast.

I do my testing on a really old Celeron 400 with FreeBSD 7 and that's mighty snappy; I wouldn't release anything that doesn't perform well on that machine. :)

Update to those who are interested, I've posted a snapshot of our db schema for the new version in our SVN, if you'd like to try out what we have so far. It's not complete as a dashboard but most of the core functionality is there. I will be adding more documentation and updated code on a regular basis so keep an eye out.
