Hi folks. A new release of the map-free dashboard is now available. Please find it at our demo site:

from where you can download the package to run on your own server.

The major enhancements include:
1. Support channel selection
2. Allow OLSR/BATMAN protocol selection
3. SSL enable/disable (for those who use commercial server without SSL)
4. Dashboard redirect (you can now come back to open-mesh dashboard)
5. Remove a node from your MySQL database. It also prevents a node from being added to more than one network.

(Note: the MySQL server on the demo site is a bit slow. Please wait a few seconds to see the body of "Welcome" page when visiting the site first time.)

Feel free to add your nodes to the site and test out the operations. Enjoy!

You work is greatly appreciated.

Is MeshConnect going to stay as a fork of orangemesh or will they merge somehow?

I've got the new MeshConnect up and running.

Question: Im use DFE with my nodes. I would assume that "Dashboard Server Settings" will not work with DFE enabled or in fact many of the other dashboad settings?

Could we use original orangemesh and meshconnect simultaneosly? Any differences between MySQL tables of orangemesh and meshconnect? A future version WITH Google Maps?

@ispyisail,
I believe DFE overrules the dashboard URL setting. Antonio may correct the statement, but my understanding is that every 5 minutes or so, the node checks into a dashboard with its current status; the dashboard responds with a set of setting values (e.g. toggling LAN-block, OLSR, dashboard URL, etc) specified by the network operator on the dashboard webpage. When the setting values reach the node, it's up to the ROBIN engine and DFE to dispatch the setting parameters. My guess is that you may need to remove the DFE file in order to let the dashboard take control.

One potential usage of DFE is to implement a control interface on the board, like Ubiquiti did with AirOS. If that could be accomplished, we wouldn’t need a dashboard any more. Although this could lead to a debate on the pros and cons of dashboards...

@pobletewireless,
In terms of the MySQL table differences, MeshConnect extends OrangeMesh’s table entries, plus enforces a unique MAC attribute to prevent duplicate node entries. So you may not want to share the same MySQL database between the two dashboards.

In terms of redirecting the check-in from one dashboard to another, the idea is that all dashboards should be able to talk to the nodes offered by open-mesh (ROBIN). So you should be able to re-direct your node(s) from MeshConnect back to Open-mesh or OrangeMesh. Now, be careful about re-directing your nodes in the other direction. Here is the catch.

Make sure you install the MeshConnect dashboard on an SSL server if you want to have your node(s) go freely between the dashboards. A new feature of MeshConnect is to support

access. However, the Open-mesh dashboard and OrangeMesh dashboard do not offer an option to turn off SSL; a re-direct from Open-mesh or OrangeMesh will automatically use the

protocol. But the URL wouldn't be able to reach your MeshConnect server if the server were not hosted on an SSL-enabled server.

The MeshConnect demo is currently running on an

server (no SSL). So be careful about re-directing the URL from the Open-mesh or OrangeMesh dashboards to the demo server. To do that, you’ll also need to log on to the nodes and turn off SSL manually.

Anyone want to host a service on SSL server for the MeshConnect demo?

I believe the open-mesh nodes won't be blocked by certificate. So any dedicated server with 443 open for ssl access should work for node to check-in. To get around the certificate for dashboard browsing, it'd nice to have the port 80 available for

We tested the service on a XAMPP server that using port 443 (default

for dashboard browsing. So the method works.

@pobletewireless, please send me a private email to grant me an access to setup the database on your server. Or we can discuss on the forum about the general procedure. Thanks a lot for your offer!!!

funchip, good work!!
just a quick question, why Orange-Mesh doesn't have it's own splash page feature? is it hard to do?
thanks a lot!

Adding splash entry to the code is simple. But a little headache is at the point where we don't want to add a burden to users in the dashboard installation to install additional tool for splash page editing. The goal is to make it simple, plug and play.

Still trying to figure out the variables in NoDogSplash environment. If anyone knows how the $authtarget works and how to program the image (for logo insertion, e.g.) replacement, please shred some light.

Thanks.

I have a patch that does this actually, I just haven't had the time to do it. Not too hard, not enough time. @funchip, if you'd like this code to add to your package just let me know. I hope to have it integrated (along with a couple other updates) into the OM 0.3.x branch soon. But I can't promise anything, unfortunately.

funchip, I'm new to orangemesh, but I really like this software, you said adding splash entry is easy, well that sounds like a good news to me since I do know a little php. Smile
any suggestions where I should start from? or any resources you could recommend to me?
I really appreciate your help!

Best

Hi shasan, that's great, is that possible that I can take a look at the patch? I"ll share with everybody once I figure this out. Smile

Which url are we supposed to point the Alternate Dashboard URL at if we want to move back to Open-Mesh? I didn't realize there was no splash page using OrangeMesh.

I'm wary of just trying "checkin.open-mesh.com" for fear of bricking my nodes. Can someone confirm which URL to use?

The value on my nodes is "www.open-mesh.com".

Sorry about lack of splash page... :(

No worries. I have a friend who says he knows exactly how to do node specific splash pages, he just has to write the simple interface for it. Hopefully we can integrate that in the future Very Happy

shasan,
could you please give me a little more details on the "patch" you talked about here, I really like to dig deeper into this splash page issue, but now I'm clueless, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!!!
