Excitedly I flashed the newest ROBIN release from 5/6/09 (ubnt-open-meshNS2.bin) from the open-mesh website, expecting it to work seamlessly with my OM1P.
The NS2 wireless interface comes up by itself but the LAN port doesn't get any address, not even 192.168.1.1 or 1.20 or 0.1 or anything. So, it can't act as a gateway. After some frustration, I realized I could ssh to the device on its 101.x.x.1 wlan address. So, I login and call ifconfig eth0 only to see that there is no LAN address assigned.
Have tried restarting the device with LAN port connected to my LAN, without connected, with direct connected to my PC. Nothing will make eth0 come up with any IP address.
I fiddled enough to discover "udhcpc", which gets an IP from my home router, and sets up the gateway and DNS. So, now the NS2 works as a mesh gateway.
It looks like udhcpc was supposed to called in /etc/rc.d/S22preinit - would some log help me debug this?
Otherwise, I can ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.1 so that at least I can access the NS2 on the LAN port.
Shouldn't this routing configuration be automatic at boot? Is something failing in my rc.d and how can I find out what might be failing?
