Deciding to begin testing a standalone dashboard and authentication server for my networks with the intention of managing both Robin networks and my standard ap/cpe networks made up primarily of Ubiquiti AP's and CPE's.

Installed and setup Ubuntu 9.10 desktop (I like the GUI).
Installed FreeRadius with mysql databases (installs & setups directly in synaptic manager)
Installed apache, php, pear, phpmyadmin etc (again synaptic manager installation)
Install and setup deloradius as per included instruction sheet.
Setup freeradius for a test UBNT NSM5 x 2 for AP and Station
Test freeradius
Install Orangemesh as per enclosed instructions
Test Orangemesh for installation errors... Setups up new networks, plots maps etc.. looks very close to Open-Mesh dashboard.. I like it.

Will now test out migrating an test Open-Mesh gateway and node to orangemesh and see what happens... Will update this once its working.

Total Installtion time from Ubuntu 9.10 install through to working freeradius/orangemesh installation.... 3hrs. Not too bad for a 1st whack at the cat....

Much easier than I anticipated

Have you got a copy of these instructions?

The installation doc is right in the tar/zip file.. just unpack it, read it.. its all there.. very simple really but here's the gist of it, extracted from the Install document in the daloradius tar file

Code:

Installation
============

 1. EXTRACT ARCHIVE
 ------------------
    daloRADIUS homepage is hosted on sourceforge at the address
    of http://sourceforge.net/projects/daloradius/ and you may
    get the latest release from there if you haven't already done so.

    extract the daloradius.tar.gz archive to /var/www

   tar -zxvf daloradius.tar.gz
   cp daloradius/ /var/www -R

 2. Setting Permissions
 ----------------------
   You also need to change permissions so that the webserver user and group are
   owning daloRADIUS's directory. In Debian the user and group are www-data and
   so we need to do this:

   chown www-data:www-data /var/www/daloradius -R
   chmod 644 /var/www/daloradius/library/daloradius.conf.php

   The chmod command is for having the daloradius.conf.php configuration file
   writable by the webserver for easy administration from the web interface.

 3. DATABASE SETUP
 -----------------

    RADIUS Database already exist
   -----------------------------
   This means that you already have a radius database in mysql because you created it
   when you installed FreeRADIUS and used FreeRADIUS's supplied schema.sql

   In this case, all that you are missing is daloRADIUS's related database schema and so
   simply install it:

      cd contrib/db
      mysql -u root -p radius < mysql-daloradius.sql

    Fresh install of daloRADIUS (and possibly FreeRADIUS)
   -----------------------------------------------------
   This means that you are working with mysql database as your storage backend for
   FreeRADIUS for the first time and so you DON'T have any radius database already
   created in mysql.

   Firstly, create the radius database in mysql:
      mysqladmin create radius

   If this is the case then you have 2 options:
      A. If you are working with FreeRADIUS 1.X then:
            mysql -u root -p radius < fr1-mysql-daloradius-and-freeradius.sql
      B. If you are working with FreeRADIUS 2.X then:
            mysql -u root -p radius < fr2-mysql-daloradius-and-freeradius.sql

 4. DATABASE CONNECTION SETUP
 ----------------------------

    Now, simply adjust the MySQL database information in
    daloRADIUS's config file.

      cd library/
      vi daloradius.conf.php

    Fill in the database details and you're done.
    Save the file and exit.

   Notice: make sure that the file in library/daloradius.conf is writable
     (and ofcourse readable) by the webserver user and group.

 5. INSTALLATION COMPLETE
 ------------------------
    Surf to http://yourip/daloradius
    Login:
      username: administrator
      password: radius

    Notice: don't forget to change the default password in the Configuration -> Operators page

 [OPTIONAL PHP CONFIGURATION]
 ============================

 I have noticed that on Debian 4.0 (etch) when the php5-mysql package is installed the
 php.ini file is created with the extensions commented. To fix it just uncomment it,
 like so:

    vi /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
    # comment out both of these as they are required:
    extension=mysql.so
    extension=gd.so
   extension=db.so

 Restart apache and everything should be ok.

OK.. so CoovaChilli proved to be wee bit taxing to install and get running.. but only took a couple of hours to polish off the configurations and get everything running smoothly.. at least from a testing standpoint!..

See how the actual real live tests this weekend go.
