I'm not the first one to recommend moving to Google Code in order to better organize development. Assembla isn't very user friendly and is yet another thing to sign up for.

You can sign into assembla with your google account.

Will a nice, new dashboard release be enough to keep you satisfied 'till Antonio reveals his "plans"? Smile

(and Eric: No complaining, I am using Google Code now, but don't expect Antonio to follow suit.)

Hi,

It might, as soon as there's a decent and affordable dual radio 802.11N driven solution. Looked at the demo of your dashboard last week btw, nice work Wink

Thank you, if you could provide feedback it is one of the most valuable things that I need right now for the dashboard.

I would love to, but don't use robin or any dashboard for the moment.
I've done tests with it before (I mean robin, not your dashboard), but as you can conclude from my post above, I need more bandwidth available to clients before I can use it in production.

Kind regards
B

Hi,
All single/not meshing hotspots running coovachilli (on openwrt or full blown Linux pc's), remotely configurable for some part through chilli's auto configuration via radius (walled garden, etc)
Also started to play with Mikrotik lately, which I really like!
The biggest issues I experienced with mesh networks are bandwidth and roaming problems.

kind regards
B

it's now the week after the one you mentioned... What's this super Seder update that you've got? Has it something to do with this "Robin Platform"?

Thanks Antonio for the great work you're doing. How could we make a donation? I didn't found any link.

You are right and I apologize... but I prefer announce "facts" and not "coming soon" or "rowking in progress". We are still working hard and as soon as all will be ready I'll be happy to introduce the "thing".

It's obviously something to do with this empty "Robin-Mesh Platform".

Part of an open-source project with lots of contributors and community like this is planning and "coming soon" stuff Smile That keeps up interested!

Either way, can't wait to see what you've got!

(as already posted elsewhere in the forum Smile)

Robin project is now hosted and fully supported by MeshRoot LLC, this new-born company was founded by me and other partners a few months ago. Other than Robin we work at mroot_fw, a Robin-derived firmware (both the firmwares share some common features) but with some plus such as phy-layer limited mesh, secure mesh, chance to bond two radios,... Either improvements and developments are bilateral, meaning that a certain feature implemented for one of the two platforms will be ported to the other one (unless mroot_fw distinguishing characteristics).
Ubiquiti devices are our reference points, either AR231x/5312 and AR71xx/AR7240/AR913x models (so UniFi is in target) albeit mroot_fw - as well as Robin - may be executed in AR231x/5312 compatible devices.

Unlike Robin, mroot_fw has its own dashboard and data-exchange protocol. In particular there is a more clear division between dashboard and captive-portal tasks, or rather: the dashboard is better oriented to manage the mesh-nodes and the captive portal is oriented to manage Acces Points and users' connections.
Task-division means that while the captive portal shows the map of deployed APs, the dashboard shows the nodes graph; while the captive portal shows stats about users and connections, the dashboard shows quality of mesh links and inter-nodes throughput; and so on... In other words, the dashboard is suited to technical purposes and the captive portal is suited to administrative purposes, the same applies to provisioning tasks.
This way - and if you want - you might grant only the captive-portal access to your users and keep the dashboard access as private.

In order to best meet users policies and accordingly the choice of the authenticators , mroot_fw can rely on two captive portal systems: authPuppy and a licensed multi-key CoovaChilli server.
All the network services, dashboard and captive portals, are provided by a dedicated cluster-HA homed at our data center, just "under our eyes" 24/7. Since the availability of a data center (one of MeshRoot LLC associate is a ISP) we may also offer virtual hosting of the sole authpuppy auth server.

mroot_fw is a commercial product and *tailored to metro-providers*, from provider to providers (p2p) is our 'motto'. It's largely based on ads revenues, since we think the way to monetize is not only sell/license nodes/software but rather deploy proprietary networks offering free internet access and gathering ADs.

mroot_fw is quite mature to be utilized in production environments, but at present it is used by MeshRoot LLC only since we have still to study a convenient business plan in cases we were asked to build third party networks or license the firmware. The cloud SAS model , i.e. "software as a service", could be a good soultion.

Anyway, our immediate target is the domestic (Italian) market, we aim to go on the International place at the end of the summer, hopefully, looking for partnerships in other geographic areas.

Awesome news! I look forward to hearing (reading) more details!

Question: would there options (aka licenses to purchase) to run an instance of the MeshRoot portal / dashboard on your own servers, i.e. via a VMWare or VirtualBox image? Is there a pricing structure for this yet?

My own experience shows that mesh operators do often grow to the point of needing to bring all their management tool in-house.
