I have 3 OM1P's in our 65,000 sq ft facility acting just as access points, there's not much "meshing" going on. My friend who got me hooked on open mesh told me the latest beta verison has a test feature where the second SSID can bridge to the LAN.

Loving that feature, I bought 3 and set them up. I absolutely LOVE having a guest and staff wifi point (both are encrypted), however the OM1P's are constantly dropping users and shutting off for a few minutes and then turning back on. I'm guessing that's just part of living in the beta world.

But is there any other option?? I'm only using the beta so I can have the second SSID bridge to th lan for our staff users. Is there another firmware option that will work with these units that are stable and have bridge mode?

I'm running build fw-ng-r274 batman-devel, and managing them through Cloudtrax.
My goal is to purchase a lot more, but I want to make sure everything is working before I do a large rollout.

Thanks!!

Thanks for the reply. A little confused. If robin can no longer run on Open-Mesh devices, why have a forum Category for it? And what would you suggest for support? Is there a NG support forum?

Thanks

I think you've misinterpreted the situation. Robin will run on the OM1P. It's probably one of the most common devices used by members of the forum.

The Open-Mesh devices USED to come with a variant of Robin on them. Open-Mesh.com has now switched to a different firmware ("NG"). Hardly anyone on this forum uses the NG firmware, so I doubt you'll find much help here. If you're looking for support, I suggest you contact Mike at Open-Mesh.com. I haven't heard of any NG forums, but I'd imagine they're out there somewhere.

I hope this makes things a bit more clear.

there's a mix-up over the two names and things... Who said Robin no longer run on Open-Mesh devices?

Robin firmware works fine on open-mesh devices such as OM1P and MR3201A as well as on other brands (ubiquiti, willigear, engenius,...) albeit open-mesh ceased to support the Robin project (open-mesh began his adventure distributing Robin on their routers MR3201A and OM1P).

I'd suggest editing the mission statement from:

"So, Robin is not the 'old code' but the 'open.source' code and no-more-supported one."

To

"So, Robin is not the 'old code' but the 'open.source' code and no-more-deployed via Open-Mesh but still supported on this Forum. However the Default NG code that now comes installed from Open Mesh is NOT supported on this forum since it's proprietary to Open-Mesh.com"

Confusion Solved
Very Happy

The NG firmware from open-mesh works fine for what you want to do.

You can have SSID for your clients, and SSID2 in bridge mode to have access to your LAN / get DHCP from your LAN.

I've used it, and it works great. But the NG firmware only supports the 2 sets of hardware you'll see on their website. Om1p's & MR500. But if your using om1p's you'll be fine.

I was quite sure this also included the MR3201A?
