Hi,
It seems possible to upgrade firmware to the latest version over-the-air via the dashboard config, enable updates.
But, it is also possible to upgrade an existing OM1P running openmesh (r2695) to the latest Robin (r3xxxx) version over-the-air/ssh or is this not compatible/possible (openmesh/robinmesh)?
Basically I want to flash, via ssh, an existing OM1P openmesh to Robinmesh.
Could it be done via ssh/tunnel or is there a manual on how to do this?
Or, am I just better off altogether flashing them manually, connected to a laptop?

Thanks!

Either way should work. You can find more info on OTA and SSH re-flashing here:

Cody, you are significantly faster in responding than That Big Blue Company for which the company I work for pays too much money to receive an automated mail that someone will look into the question in the next 4 hours!

But again, it looks good and gee...so much fun stuff to try...Might have to send my wife on a weekend shopping spree to keep the balance in place :p

Hi Cody,

The update using cloudtrax dashboard didn't work, an error in /sbin/update line 39, seems it got "--2011-06-30" as parameter which seems to be a date stamp. The wget operation for the test branch also didn't work but that's because the url couldn't be found.
Nothing like living on the edge, so I tried the development update using ssh/wget, and that worked -flawlessy-.
It executed the update, did all the low level stuff and rebooted, came online, ssh'ed into it with the default robin root passwd, issued the update command, checked in, got the updated config, dashboard reports r3828 and left me pretty much baffled. Extremely clean and painless upgrade and unless I'm mistaking all that fun just lasted less than 10 minutes!
All I need now is a voucher dashboard and I am one extreme happy little camper!

I'm not sure on how I would approach upgrading my production network.
There's a gateway and a router, I presume I should first upgrade the router, but I can't ssh into it after it reboots because the mesh won't work so at that point I will have to do the gateway upgrade, have the gateway reboot and via my hardwired dd-wrt router I should be able to (most likely) ssh back into it and issue the update command to speed up the checkin. At the next reboot it should start meshing with the repeater downrange, which should also come online once the mesh it up.
Heck, I've got a few OM1P's, might as well try doing a gateway/repeater upgrade in my lab too! Flash back to r2695, set up the gateway & repeater, and I bet both will be upgraded & online again in less than 30 minutes!

Thanks!

Your thinking to hard

It looks after itself, just add the custom script and the code does the work.

There a a very few exceptions where the upgrade may fail so make sure your do the upgrade at an appropriate time

Yes, I worry, and probably a little too much, but the networks are about 1500Km away from me and asking a manual reflash or hard reboot would mean I have to guide an on-site computer novice through the whole ordeal by phone.
Previously, I was also under the impression that the OM1P's I bought used robinmesh but had openmesh specific changes applied on top of if, so I wondered about the compatibility etc & got a bit confused and didn't want to brick anything.

I did the whole gateway/repeater upgrade via the wget /sbin/upgrade.sh method and that worked flawlessly for me.From testing all options in my local gateway/repeater setup I noticed that even a r2xxx gateway can still mesh with a r3xxx repeater so ssh connectivity is never really lost.
At one point in the future I'll be confident enough and just let it all run automated but for now I really want to be able to control&understand as much as possible.

One thing I noticed twice is that after a few days uptime both OM1P's got struck with the wifi stuckbeacon problem. It happened for the 2nd time last night just before I was getting everything ready to run the upgrade. All of a sudden dmesg & logread all frantically report the stuckbeacon errors and the gateway/repeater mesh speed was reduced to a few Kb but and after a few reboots it "went away" for no apparent reason and the mesh speed was back to normal. Wonder if I see it again on r3xxx, which probably means it's hardware releated or Tx power could be too high, maybe some temporarily local interference etc.Curious if it occurs again!

Thanks for the help!
