Let's say I connect a Robin-router running r3842 to a hotel ethernet cable which has a splash page preventing me from accessing the internet. With a normal wireless router I would just be redirected to the splash page, accept and I'd be ready to surf but with Robin the connection just times out...

Funny thing, if I look at the local webpage in the router it says it is acting as a gateway and even gives a speed estimate.

The splash page is located at 10.59.1.1:8080

Does anybody have any splendid ideas why?

I don't think this particular scenario is supported. Also, I don't believe that the node has internet access.

I don't think this particular scenario is supported. Also, I don't believe that the node has internet access.

Perhaps it is not supported, I was merely tinkering with my new toy Smile

I normally have a fonera with dd-wrt with me on our trips to provide wireless connectivity to our two iphones, one ipad and one macbook (nobody else does this?) but they were flashed with robin and I had no time to reflash them so I thought I'd set up a small mesh network in my hotel room Smile

Anyhow how come the ping fails but the wget succeeds?

Code:
Jan  1 02:00:51 BEARNET1 user.notice inet-test.sh: failed (f)pinging  192.33.4.12 198.32.64.12 198.41.0.4
Jan  1 02:00:51 BEARNET1 user.info : inet-test.sh: failed (f)pinging  192.33.4.12 198.32.64.12 198.41.0.4
Jan  1 02:00:52 BEARNET1 user.notice inet-test.sh: passed: wget test domains
Jan  1 02:00:52 BEARNET1 user.info : inet-test.sh: passed: wget test domains

What is the test domain?

//A

There are a number of test domains. Now, the pings wont work as they are not yet allowed to access the other servers and the reason that the wget succeeds is that the Splash Page is sending a reply. This fact is proven by the date: Jan 1.

OK, so the node will not start routing traffic to/from the wan until it has a verified internet connection (tested by the ping tests?)

Well, the node is probably not operating correctly with the Internet connection acting the way it is.

That would seem to be the issue, thanks.

And with a quick SSH into the node and
Code:
uci set iprules.filter.LAN_BLOCK=0
uci commit
reboot

and everything works like a charm. Thanks for pointing the way!
