Hi All

I was reading another post and they mentioned installing Robin/Robix on Ubuntu!

Can anybody explain how to do that?

Thanks

@ ispyisail

re the only post I can find in this forum re robix on Ubuntu is in the adjacent thread "Cards for x86 version" by bdelacey on Oct 12 08 I have answered their post but will copy here for continuity:-

- bdelacey asked:-

"Phil, any chance a future release might offer ROBIX as an installabe package for the Ubuntu distro?"

- I replied:-
"Re robix as a package - this is a concept mismatch I'm afraid as robin / robix is a whole distro (based on openwrt) and takes over the network subsystem and rebooting process in a way that is incompatible with a distro used for other things that can't tolerate this. See my post in the adjacent thread "My dodgy attempt at x86robin build" dated Aug 04. Although we now have to include olsrd along with batman to that post."

But a concept transfer of the robin / robix implementation of mesh node construction is of course possible. But I will not have the time to do this as it is non trivial due to the dependencies of network subsystems and reboot subsystems.

Would it be possible to take just Ubuntu and install the proper atheros card, madwifi, olsr, and a couple other things and have it work alongside robin-mesh? Meaning, most of Robin would not be in there, but on a networking level devices could connect to the OLSR adhoc being put out by the Gateway Server? I know more details are needed, but I'm just seeing what some others think.
