Hi all

I thought I had better check out the new channel change feature

Changed the channel to 14 at the dashboard waited 15 minutes.

The whole wireless network went down (no wireless broadcast)

The gateway nodes are still connected to the my DSL router so I was still able to SSH into a node.

I changed the channel back to 5

Code:
root@OM1P:~# iwconfig ath0
ath0      IEEE 802.11b  ESSID:""  Nickname:""
          Mode:Ad-Hoc  Frequency:2.484 GHz  Cell: 02:CA:FF:EE:BA:BE

          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/70  Signal level=-98 dBm  Noise level=-98 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

root@OM1P:~# update

Update

The whole network came back online on channel 5, just had to wait 30 minutes

I wonder if the mesh network was working fine on Channel 14 but my PC clients can't see or receive channels above 11?

in the US, yes, set it for japan, or load dd-wrt on a router and use that to connect to 14 in client mode.

perhaps you should sit patiently and see if repeaters checkin to Dashboard when set to channel 14. this would at least confirm that they are meshing.

it'll give you time to worry about the consequences of operating RF equipment outside of the legally-usable unlicensed spectrum for your country.

Limitations

Spectrum assignments and operational limitations are not consistent worldwide. Most of Europe allows for an additional 2 channels beyond those permitted in the U.S. for the 2.4 GHz band. (1–13 vs. 1–11); Japan has one more on top of that (1–14). Europe, as of 2007, was essentially homogeneous in this respect. A very confusing aspect is the fact that a Wi-Fi signal actually occupies five channels in the 2.4 GHz band resulting in only three non-overlapped channels in the U.S.: 1, 6, 11, and three or four in Europe: 1, 5, 9, 13 can be used if all the equipment on a specific area can be guaranteed not to use 802.11b at all, even as fallback or beacon. Equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) in the EU is limited to 20 dBm (100 mW).

US 1 to 11
Europe 1 to 13

Channel 14 based on the dashboard results appears to be working fine but clients can't see the network

I've now switched to channel 13 and that appears to be working fine Smile
