Hi, all

I'm going to setting up a Robix merge into my present Robin mesh network (fon2100*4 in r1522).

After installed the latest Robix version in IBM R50 Laptop with D-link DWL-G650 cardbus wireless card, I can't see any wifi interface in command "ifconfig".

I can see my internal wireless card "Intel PRO/wireless lan 2100" in command "lspci".

My question is how can I setting the wireless card up with the mesh function? I already confirmed that the DWL-G650 support by Madwifi driver.

Another question is although my Lan is up, but the watchdog will reboot in radom time, is there any way to disable the watchdog ?

Any reply is appreciate.

how many wireless cards are installed in that machine?
I think watchdog shutdown the system just because wifi is not detected...

There's one minipci intel wireless card, and one cardbus Dlink DWL-G650.

I tried to disable the intel wireless card then reboot, didn't work out anyway.

I know the watchdog reboot bcz the wifi faided, but it's really annoying ... Crying or Very sad, is there anyway that I can switch off the watchdog until the wifi device uplink ?

I typed the following command
Code:
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta

but received ioctl: No such device

Hello sintsu

I think the reason there is no wifi is that currently robix is compiled without pcmcia support. Sorry, didn't want to add in yet as was unsure of potential problems and had only tested recent builds without this compiled in. But you could follow my notes on how I build this last version but add pcmcia where I didn't and you might get lucky. I wanted to look into it a fair bit more myself before releasing a robix with this included but I too would like to have the facility to use a pcmcia wifi card. Also note that there is as yet no usb support either, for the same reasons.

Hope this helps.

I'm afraid I can't be more specific as I haven't looked into the exact nature of adding pcmcia or its knock-ons and am again pushed for time for a bit. But I hope to add it to the next robix release so do let us know how you get on if you try it out yourself. But it is as well to make as few a changes as possible so that what changes you have made can be attributed to changes in behaviour.

ok, I'll try to build a robix with pcmcia support.

another suggest is including "pciutils" package in the next version
by the way I found "segmentation fault error" in the command "time"

yes, I already tried to disable the intel wifi in BIOS, but no use.

I think the only way is to build a robix with pcmcia support,I'm working on it but ... cannot find the reference

@ sintsu

I wasn't quite sure if "... the reference." you couldn't find was to my nodes on building robix. Just in case its the "Notes" link within the last paragraph before the robix tar.gz file downloads at:-

These same notes and also contained within the tar.gz's of each robix version.

I will have a go at adding the pcmcia and possibly usb myself soon so will let you know here just in case.

Hope that helps.

Hi, phil

I'm now working on cross compile a program running on ROBIN, so not yet study how to rebuild the Robix.

I'm very appreciate your work, perhaps you can write a step by step howto, it would be more esay to follow for the follwers Smile

@ sintsu

From my notes referenced in my previous post there is a step by step guide on how I created robix which is its self just a cross compile of robin but based on Antonio's net4801 branch which means we are able to pull on the work already done by Antonio towards the x86 platform.

The steps, which take the form of exact console commands and actions within openwrt menuconfig, are in the section entitled "How I created this robix image" and go from downloading all required source, through configuration and modification to installation methods, and where ever possible avoid manual adjustment in favour of sed commands and the like.

My concern is that you may be unnecessarily duplicating effort already put in by Antonio towards Net4801 and my little addition to broaden that to generic x86.

Yes I agree my notes could be clearer but due to the ongoing nature of this effort I wanted to explain why and what I was doing or thought I was doing at each step so that it might be easier for others to correct me. I was showing my working as it was in the hope that it would help others to correct my mistakes or omissions.

I will have a go at changing the format a little on my next release for those that simply want to build it with minor modification or addition. But those that just want a compiled image need not compile from scratch but simply use the robix install cd.

Thanks for your suggestions, I will try and act on them in the next release.

Do let us know how you get on either way.
