1. As a AP, it need to be connected by client as well as mesh nodes, so should it own one wireless network adapt or two which one is used to be connected by client and the other connect to mesh nodes?

2. If there is only one wireless network adapt in the AP node, how does it work to both be connected by client and connect to mesh nodes?

3. how does the VAP work?

I am green hand in Robin mesh.
Thx!

One wireless router (ROBIN gateways node) connects to both a wireless client (PC) and another mesh node (ROBIN repeater node) at the same time.

Thanks!

another question,
There is only one wireless network adapt in the AP node, does it connect with client and mesh nodes in the same channel or different channel, like channel 1,6,11 in 2.4Ghz radio.

same channel

if you ssh into the radio you will see that there are two logical interfaces assigned to the single radio. ath0 is for mesh duty and ath1 is the AP

thx for your reply.
hmm....
In Robin IP Space:
client node - router MAC Address is 00:18:0A:03:08:05
mesh network IP address (ath0) will be: 5.3.8.5
open_AP-LAN bridge IP address (br0 or br-lan) will be: 101.8.5.1 (network 101.8.5.1/24)
WPA-PSK_AP IP address (ath2) will be: 102.8.5.1 (network 102.8.5.128/24)

so what exactly the usage of WPA-PSK_AP?
Is it used to connect client privately or for some other reason?

Code:
Every robin node has an open AP (bridged with its eth0 if the node is a repeater) and a WPA-PSK AP: all the APs have active DHCP service which will configure your pc either wired-connected or wirelessly associated with.

Mesh Network IP space: 5.0.0.0/8, according to /etc/config/mesh configuration file.
Node APs IP space (2 separate subnet per AP): 101.x.y.z/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0) and 102.x.y.z/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0)

All IP addresses are derived by device's MAC address, if MAC is aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff then ath0 IP (mesh iface) will be 5.dd:ee:ff while ath1 IP and ath2 IP will be 101.ee:ff:1 and 102.ee:ff:1 (obviously in decimal format).

For example, if

    * client node - router MAC Address is 00:18:0A:03:08:05
o mesh network IP address (ath0) will be: 5.3.8.5
          o open_AP-LAN bridge IP address (br0 or br-lan) will be: 101.8.5.1 (network 101.8.5.1/24)
          o WPA-PSK_AP IP address (ath2) will be: 102.8.5.1 (network 102.8.5.128/24)

    * gateway node - router MAC Address is 00:18:0A:01:07:fe
o mesh network IP address (ath0) will be: 5.1.7.254
          o open_AP IP address (ath1) will be: 101.7.254.1 (network 101.7.254.1/24)
          o WPA-PSK_AP IP address (ath2) will be: 102.7.254.1 (network 102.7.254.1/24)

A mesh network IP space example:

Usually:

    * the "public AP", or "open AP", (to say the Virtual Access Point builded on ath1) is mentioned as AP1
    * the "private AP", or "WPA-PSK AP", (the VAP builded on ath2) is mentioned as AP2
