PostPosted: Fri Dec 10, 2010 9:43 am    Post subject: about steps to install Reply with quote

I got DIR-300 routers.

I have read How-to, but I'm still confused about the steps to install open-wrt and other firmwares...

Q1:when do I need to compile Robin? Need files download from robin mesh be compiled?

Q2: If I want to run OLSR in router, which file should I reflash to router?
is it 'openwrt-atheros-root.jffs2-64k' or other files. Actually, I don't know which file include the OLSR protocal...

Q3: I reflash the os of router first with 'openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma', then I reflash the firmware 'openwrt-atheros-root.jffs2-64k'. is it right?

Thank you!

the robin version is:
beta 1.5 (r2693) and it runs well. But it needs a special flashing procedure.
so which step is special?

I also have the Revision A device, although, I think I bricked it. It had DD-WRT, then I tried to flash OpenWRT, which failed Sad.

I try to do Fon_Flash, but I came into this problem:
No packet.
No packet.

Expect arp with length 60, received 42

Need I keep the TFTP session when doing Fon_Flash? actually Fon_Flash needs to unplug the router power which lead to TFTP session disconnected.
The router is version A1, and in LAN1 when I flashing the kernel and rootfs.
I don't know which step goes wrong...

btw, I can't access the video that ispyisail provided:

You may need to build a serial cable?

have you used the correct ROBIN firmware?

I would suggest flashing with gargoyle just to test your flashing procedure!

I used the common lan cable to connect PC's Ethernet port and router's LAN1 port, sth wrong? how and why should I build a serial cable?

yes, I downloaded the firmware from here:

openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs and openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma

yes, first I flashed the router with fon_flash_gui.exe.
I followed the instruction here:

but failed and the result showed the message: no packet...

so I flashed with another procedure here:

and the router kept on rebooting for hours...
and now I can't telnet with the router...luckily I have new routers.

That's because putty is connected using a serial cable

Fon Flash is connected using a Ethernet cable

I used putty with a serial cable so you could see the boot sequence

the procedure is unplug the router power before you click the flash button, but when I unplug the power, the telnet session is closed, so the flash guide showed the message:no packet. does it matter?

my procedure is :
1. configure my PC IP: 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0
2. connect PC's Ethernet port to router's LAN1 with Ethernet cable
3. telnet 192.168.1.1 9000
4. select the kernel and rootfs file
5. unplug the router power (when I did this step, the telnet session is closed)
6. click the flash button
7. plug the router power

and the flash guide showed the message:
Reading image file D:\实验室资料\robin mesh\dir-300 a1\openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs with 2228224 bytes, rounded to 0x00220000
Reading image file D:\实验室资料\robin mesh\dir-300 a1\openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma with 720896 bytes, rounded to 0x000b0000

There are many ways to flash this device

I suspect you are mixing the methods and getting errors

first, I installed the supplied redboot, I follow the procedure until:

now the unit will reboot and the new bootloader will be executed and is waiting for your connection. this wil take 30+ sec.
connect to the bootloader with telnet on port 9000 and ip 192.168.1.1

then, I follow the procedure to install openwrt like install Gargoyle

do you find the problem? maybe the problem is firmware kernel and rootfs files...(http://svn6.assembla.com/svn/RobinMesh/downloads/firmware/development/
openwrt-atheros-root.squashfs and openwrt-atheros-vmlinux.lzma)
because I used two methods fon-flash-guide and manul-flash, both goes well in the procedure, but the last reset procedure it keep reboot again and again...became bricked...

The reason that dir-300 A1 keeps rebooting over and over is it is not connected to Internet.

I am really sorry for this mistake...
I apologize to all and thank you for your help Smile
