This the opening post from David Bird:

"It appears that open-mesh will be discontinuing their support for CoovaOM, along with all other 3rd party captive portal providers. This came without notice to us! Though, perhaps not that surprising, as they have also stopped supporting the open-source firmware project, Robin, that has gotten them this far (you might also notice the open mesh mission statement no longer mentions 'open-source' like it used to). What does it mean for CoovaOM? Since CoovaOM was integrated with the open-mesh dashboard for one click configuration, when they stop supporting that integration, CoovaOM will no longer work, sadly. Will this cause problems for you? Thoughts?

The good news is that Dasboard features (centralized configuration/firmware management) will be in the next version of CoovaRADIUS with support for all CoovaAP 2.0 firmware - UBNT SDK, Robin, OpenWrt, etc.."

Immediate response from Michael Burmeister-Brown:

"Open Mesh is not removing support for 3rd-party captive portal providers. We are simply recommending that users begin entering the settings directly as some current and potential providers have expressed concern about listing their competitors. In addition, there are so many potential providers that we feel it is best to have a consistent and open method for adding captive portal support. If CoovaOM was designed in such a way that it is not possible to enter account settings, then this is unique to CoovaOM and we are not aware of this. David, feel free to contact me to make any changes necessary to continue to support CoovaOM. But to confirm, we are not removing support for any captive portal provider. Quite the opposite, we want to make our dashboard open to all providers on an equal basis."

David Bird's response (bold added by me):

"Thanks for the clarification! However, as you remove the integration that made the one-click configuration of CoovaOM possible, you will be reminded how CoovaOM was, by design, integrated to not require manual entry of configuration. Network owners are, in fact, logged in to CoovaOM portal via your dashboard. Without that integration, it wouldn't be CoovaOM -- that is what we call CoovaNET. The issue remains for those currently using CoovaOM as there isn't any migration to CoovaNET (a different system), other than starting over. Thanks for the heads-up."

Not sure what is going on from that thread, nor do I know if this has anything to do with the current CoovaOM outage.

@jancici
really, it doesn't depend on Robin.
What I can say - as in twitter and linkedIn - is that Coova and me are approaching a way to merge AP and Captive Portal software... despite what dashboard may offer (i.e. the 'CoovaRobin' solution will be always available as the default captive portal).
