Right now I have an Engenius ECB3500 and a Uqiquiti Nano2 Loco in our lab. The ECB3500 is running r2699 and the Nano is running ng-r376. I've come to the conclusion that these two firmwares are incompatible.

What are the major differences between Robin and NG? I'm just confused in general in regards to the two.

Will NG run on my ECB3500?

Which is better, NG or Robin?

Which is being actively developed?

We would love to start putting out some free wifi but without a clear goal for the firmwares we are having difficulty determining which hardwares work well together based on which devices each firmware works on.

Any guidance is appreciated!

First NG and Robin use different routing protocols. Which are incompatible with each other.

NG uses a Batman protocol and Robin uses the Robin protocol.

NG is closed source firmware, Robin is open source firmware.

NG only supports their hardware openmesh.com, Robin supports third party hardware. NG will work on some third party hardware but reviews are mixed on the performance. My experience is I get much better performance with Robin on my eoc 1650's.

Both are actively developed, NG is developing faster, but only for their chosen hardware.

Although once united robin and ng are totally different creatures now.

I suggest pouring over the wiki

Hope this helps and anyone feel free to correct me as I am new to this also.
