I recently learned that Wifi Rush, a vendor who used to stock Engenius EOC-1650s flashed with r2695 'stable' ROBIN firmware, is discontinuing these units since the EOC-1650 is apparently "End of Line" now. They say any replacement Engenius units will be 802.11n and have NG firmware.

With the declining number of vendors offering 802.11g nodes pre-flashed with r2695 (if this number isn't already 0?), I'm curious if any known dashboards exist, besides Cloudtrax, that support checkins from NG nodes.

The MeshConnect dashboard does not support checkins from NG nodes, upon initial testing. Likewise, the Wifi Mesh GPL dashboard (a successor to robin-dash), now uses a different API than current ROBIN nodes, if I understand correctly. Also, the commercial Meshroot-s firmware Antonio is working on itself requires a new dashboard service.

I presume Robin.v2 is intended to maintain compatibility with ROBIN / old Cloudtrax / MeshConnect / robin-dash / etc., but it is not stable yet.

It certainly generous of Cloudtrax / Open Mesh to continue offering free dashboard service for nodes running NG. However, does this now mean that being sold a node pre-flashed with NG firmware effectively requires one to use the Cloudtrax dashboard?

(Short of manually re-flashing the node with some yet-to-be-named firmware?)

To follow-up, here is the statement from the Wifi Mesh dashboard developer(s) about not supporting Cloudtrax NG nodes by design, due to the closed-source firmware.

"WiFi Mesh GPL should be compatible with all official Robin-Mesh firmware releases from r3713, onwards. We do not support the Open-Mesh NG firmware at this point due to the closed nature of the firmware and the encryption of dashboard replies."

Also, and uncertain of if or how this may be related, some legal drama related to Wifi Mesh:

Another follow-up, here is a post on the Wifi Rush user support forum about (partially?) restoring Wifi Rush dashboard heartbeat function to the Cloudtrax NG firmware via a custom.sh script.

I believe this custom.sh script here is proprietary to Wifi Rush, but it does should one avenue for maintaining dashboard heartbeat support under MeshConnect / Wifi Mesh / etc could be a similar custom.sh implementation.

We've pretty much only been buying hardware with stock firmware and putting ROBIN on them ourselves before they're pushed out into service. Time consuming.... especially for us using Ubiquiti hardware and needing to circumvent the special setting for locale.
